Every international students will be automatically joined to the National Health Insurance of Korea(국민건강보험, NHI) after they get ARC(Alien Registration Card).

Before they get ARC and be joined to NHI, international students can freely register to private insurance on their own, but cannot be exempted from joining NHI since it is mandatory for everyone.
